Kelvin Blas: Fighting for a Forgotten Warrior
Army veteran Kelvin Blas has been stranded in Togo for six years after repeated failures by the U.S. government to help bring him home. In 2020, embassy staff allegedly told him that “Americans aren’t Black.” In 2025, current embassy staff allegedly told him he was not welcome at the embassy. He has also alleged that an embassy guard assaulted him while an embassy staffer watched from inside through a window. His case shows exactly why this work matters.
